Teach the content to yourself or a friend. Talk aloud as you explain physiological concepts to yourself, a friend, sister, brother, parent, tutor etc.
A solid understanding of physiology will, without question, make you a better nurse. That being said, think about how these concepts apply to clinical settings and build upon them throughout your clinical rotations.
The concepts of physiology build on one another and the better you understand the material just covered, the better you'll understand future material. An understanding of the following will keep you on track. Two or more atoms ( tiny building blocks such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen) = A Molecule such as carbon dioxide or water. Many molecules = A cell ( could be tissue cell, muscle cell, nerve cell etc). Many cells = A tissue ( epithelial tissue, muscle tissue, nerve tissue or connective tissue). Two or more tissue types together = An organ such as the skin ( The skin contains epithelial tissue, nerve tissue, adipose tissue and connective tissue). Organs that perform related functions = organ systems ( respiratory system, immune system, circulatory system etc)
Ask Questions, lots of them!!
